Welcome to Festival "Bolzano Canta" 2009!


With the 1st Choral Festival called "Among Mountains, Castles, Museums and Vineyards", we wish to gather in Bolzano, the Gateway to the Dolomites, a considerable number of national and international choral groups, who will have the opportunity to perform in historic buildings, natural settings, museums, castles and, of course, in the Dolomites.
Our aim is to make the 1st Choral Festival become an annual event in which the common theme of choral music is the focal point of debate and exchange.
The Festival is open to all choral ensembles, from boys' choirs to youth choirs, classic choirs and groups with accompaniment.
The event is not competitive and no compulsory pieces are requested. Choral programmes are free, with respect, of course, for the location of the concert.
We wish to bring honour to choral music in its widest expression and offer, at the same time, the opportunity for all choral music enthusiasts to meet.

Choir repertoires have been divided into 8 groups:
- Liturgical chant
- Sacred and secular polyphony
- Gregorian chant
- Italian and international folk music
- Mountain and singer-songwriter music
- Pop music
- Spiritual & gospel
- Vocal pop & jazz

Each participating choir will be provided with an individual schedule: they will have no time to be bored! The schedule will keep choirs busy from early in the morning to late at night with music and art engagements, but also discovering the territory both from a historical and cultural point of view, as well as with food and wine tours and plenty of entertainment.
Guest choirs will have the opportunity to choose where they would like to sing in South Tyrol, for example in a mountain hut, at the foot of the Dolomites, on the edge of the famous Lake Caldaro or in one of the other festival locations.

THE ART ORGANISATION WILL BE RUN BY A COMMITTEE OF CHOIR DIRECTORS APPOINTED BY THE BOLZANO CHOIR FEDERATION. BEPI DE MARZI, THE WELL-KNOWN MUSICIAN AND COMPOSER FROM VICENZA, WILL BE ONE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE.
